PETER SOJKA

Maliarska tvorba Petra Sojku (1982) sa rozvíja viacerými smermi súčasne. Cítiť v nej hĺbavosť a zanietenie pre klasické kvality maľby, čím vykazuje črty príznačné pre absolventa štúdia u prof. Jána Bergera na VŠVU. Netypicky pre príslušníka svojej generácie sa venuje prednostne olejomaľbe a klasickým maliarskym žánrom akými sú akt, zátišie, portrét či krajina. Nepristupuje k nim však anonymne - vo všetkých prípadoch ide výhradne o obrazy autorovho osobného života, skutočne prežitých situácií a zážitkov. Či sú to intímne výjavy z vlastnej domácnosti, rodinných stretnutí či fotografie náhodných neznámych na “žúroch”, vždy sú autentickým záznamom, akýmsi vizuálnym denníkom autora. Sojka svoju tvorbu neukotvuje v jedinom poli, v rámci zobrazujúceho (figuratívneho) maliarstva sa pohybuje od fotorealistických polôh až po veľmi osobnú, symbolickú príbehovosť. Stmeľujúcim prvkom jeho malieb je sklon k lyrickosti, jemnosti a snovej zádumčivosti, ktorá sa neprejavuje iba v obsahu, ale i vo formálnych prvkoch diel. I keď plátno niekedy ozvláštni hrubým pastóznym farebným akcentom, väčšinou maľuje v tenkých “staromajstrovských” vrstvách (lazúrach), dosahujúc tak tlmenú žiarivosť svojich objektov a postáv.

Peter Sojka (1982) is a painter whose works manifest artistically in several directions simultaneously. They are reflections of and reveal devotion to classical qualities of painting, thus exhibiting features often found in graduate student works produced under Professor Ján Berger at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. Atypical of a member of his artistic generation, though, is the fact that Sojka has continued to focus on oil painting, devoting his work to classical painting genres such as the nude, still life, portrait and landscape. His approach to these genres, however, is not anonymous; all his paintings are images drawn from the artist’s personal life, from directly experienced situations and individual moments in time. They are based either on his memories of intimate scenes from his household and of family meetings, or on photographs of people randomly observed at parties. Regardless of which, they are always authentic records and, in a sense, the artist’s visual journal. Also, Sojka does not anchor his work solely within a single mode of expression; for example, within figurative painting, he moves from photo-realistic images to intensely personal symbolic story lines. A unifying element common to all his paintings is his inclination to lyricism, softness, and dreamy melancholy, to be witnessed not only in the content but also in the formal elements of his artworks. Although he sometimes adorns his canvas with a thick colourful accent, he mostly paints in thin “old-master” layers (stains), thus lending his elements and figures a subtle, self-luminous quality.
